Mountain bike and cycle hire in Fort William

Fort William and Lochaber is a great place to bring your bikes or hire bikes when you arrive. Apart from being a healthy sport and a good way to get around, cycling in the forests amongst the mountains and lochs is quite superb. The Great Glen Cycle Route goes from Fort William to Inverness and is becoming more popular each year. The southern end of the route begins at Fort William and follows the Caledonian Canal route north.

The local Forestry have provided tens of miles of relatively safe forest tracks to enjoy. These are well away from busy and noisy roads and you are guaranteed to see lots of wildlife - not to mention the great views.

Several local companies provide a mountain bike and cycle hire service to visitors and these include all the safety gear and maps needed.

If you are a road cyclist and expect to be  travelling through Fort William, you might like to know that you can cycle through most of Fort William without being on the busy A82. From Lochaber College to  Lochy Bridge you can cycle along the side of the River Lochy, and then join the tarmac cycle route all the way to Torlundy before rejoining the A82.
